What is ChessBase Scoring % ?

Ever notice that ChessBase or statistical engines show a single Scoring Percentage (like 57%) instead of three separate numbers for Wins, Draws, and Losses?

½

The Secret Formula

Win % + ( 0.5 × Draw % )

Because a draw splits the point! This calculates your expected tournament output or strength in one single, clean value. Let's master the math below!

🎓 Step-by-Step Academy Math

Tournament points are awarded as: Win = 1 pt, Draw = ½ pt, Loss = 0 pts.

Step 1: Convert Draws to Half-Points
30%
× 0.5 =
15%

Draws are split equally. White gets exactly half of all drew games.

Step 2: Combine with Clean Wins
45%
+
15%
=
60.0%

We combine White's outright wins with White's share of points from drew games.

The Mathematical Formula
Scoring % = Win% + (0.5 × Draw%)
Why? It yields your exact average score per game. Perfect Equality: A score of 50% means White and Black played with equal performance overall.

"Remember kids! Since a draw is shared, we simply slice the draw percentage in half and add it directly to our win rate. Easy peasy!"
